The most dedicated farmers at the community harvest project referred to us as an inspiration to them! We served over 22,000 people this week.
We picked a girl's first blueberry - on our first day we were harvesting blueberries, soon after a worker from the community harvest brought blueberries to Friendly's House. There was a young girl there who had never had a blueberry before - she loved it!
At my job site a story was shared with me by a long time worker named Peach. She described a day where she was taking a group of fourth graders out to the fields to pick vegetables. After the informational presentation about the community harvest project two young girls were questioning the true magnitude of people they served. Peach took this somewhat personal and confronted the girls asking them, " I haven't eaten today or yesterday do I look hungry?" She then continued by stating how hunger is invisible for the most part and they were naive to say they don't see that many hungry people. ~ Sean
After seeing the progress made in the many rows of zuchini, cabbage, beets, and so many more vegetables, the fulfillment I got was incredible. To know that all of that food was picked by us and was gonna serve thousands of people, that's an amazing feeling. It's even better when you get to do that with the best group of people there is ! ~ Amanda
