The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process for interested adults and older children to be gradually educated and introduced to the Roman Catholic church and Catholic way of life. For those who join the R.C.I.A. process, at Saint Rose of Lima parish, it is a period, normally of eight months or so, composed of reflection, prayer, instruction, discernment, and formation. Although there is no set timetable and those who join the process are encouraged to go at their own pace and take as much time as they need, it is usually timed to conclude at the Easter Vigil, where the candidate is baptized if necessary, confirmed and receives Holy Communion.
Those who enter the process are expected to begin attending Holy Mass on a Sunday, attend a weekly RCIA session, and to become increasingly more involved in the activities of the parish. During Lent, the readings of the third, fourth and fifth Sunday of Lent are specially selected for the participants of the RCIA process and a special prayer over the Elect is offered as 'The First, Second and Thurd Scrutinies'.
The weekly instruction is provided by a team of catechists
